Job Title: Sr. Geographer

Job Location: St. Petersburg, FL

Hours / Week: 40 / week

Job Description: Senior level professional with advanced degree to perform complex GIS tasks with other professionals.  Sr. Geographer will work on geospatial data analysis, spatial modeling, GIS application development and customization, image analysis, GUI development, modeling of drainage basins, geodatabase design and IMS website design for spatial data query, analysis and retrieval is also required.  The candidate shall provide through documentation, metadata and QA/QC for all products and generate comprehensive reports and scientific publications, and present reports to various audiences including scientists, policy-makers, stake-holders, and general public.

Key duties and responsibilities involve developing methods of visualizing and graphically presenting scientifically gathered data characterizing the pre-project condition of the remaining Everglades with geographical focus on the footprint of the Water Conversation Areas and the Shark River Slough.  Development of imaginative ways of combining research results gathered by scientists (digital photographs, video footage, mapping, hydrologic data, topographic data, etc.) to effectively convey the current condition of the specified geographic area.  Development of a georeferenced database, and development of a creative and effective visual interface for displaying database contents in the form of one or more 'trips' throughout the target area (visual snapshots).  Detect, model, and estimate spatial patterns of elevation of tree islands located in Water Conservation Areas, and will use geostatistical techniques such as Variography and Kriging.  Assist to detect and estimate spatial patterns of abundance and distribution of woody species on tree islands located in Water Conservation Areas.  Provide thorough documentation, metadata and QA/QC for all products and have strong skills in generating comprehensive reports and scientific publications, and presenting reports to various audiences including scientists, policy makers, stakeholders, and general public.

Minimum Education: Master of Science in Geosciences

Major Field of Study: Geography or related field is required.

Experience: 1 year experience in the position offered or GIS Research Analyst, Graduate Research Assistant or closely related occupation.
